Cincinnati Open: Andrey Rublev vs Pablo Carreno Busta

Andrey Rublev is the 13 seed at the Cincinnati Open with a 26-15 record this season. His flat, aggressive baseline game has always travelled better on fast outdoor hard courts than on clay or grass. Pablo Carreno Busta, still working his way back from an extended injury layoff, sits at 9-11 for the year. He faces an uphill physical battle even before a ball is struck. Carreno Busta deserves respect, not dismissal. He swept Tomas Machac in straight sets to reach this round and picked up a Challenger title in March. Those are real signs his comeback has produced genuine peaks. But finding rhythm against a lower-ranked opponent is different from sustaining that counter-punching intensity over three sets against a seed who can rush him with first-strike pace. Rublev does carry one red flag. A three-set loss to Juncheng Shang in Montreal shows he can be dragged into long, uncomfortable matches even against lesser-ranked players.
